Our Patron Sara Cox has helped working donkeys in Zimbabwe after telling her listeners about our fluorescent bands appeal.

Having been a World Horse Welfare Patron since 2016, Sara Cox has already had a huge positive impact on horses, ponies, donkeys and mules in need – and now her support has helped hundreds of donkeys in Zimbabwe, after she shared details of our appeal on her BBC Radio 2 teatime show on 23rd April.
Our Chief Executive, Roly Owers, says:
“We’re so grateful to our Patron, Sara for supporting our vital work helping horses, ponies, donkeys and mules in the UK and around the world. It’s incredible to see how many people have donated to our appeal raising funds to buy fluorescent bands for donkeys in Zimbabwe, after Sara shared with her listeners that she’d been filming a video about it. The bands are such a simple solution, but they really do save donkeys’ lives. After Sara mentioned our appeal, funds for 350 bands were donated in just 15 hours.
“We’d also like to say a huge congratulations to Sara on the news that she will be taking over the Radio 2 Breakfast Show – truly wonderful news and so well deserved.”
Having ridden since the age of six, horses have been a huge part of Sara’s life and she is passionate about their welfare. She’s taken part in a number of events for our charity, including our Ride to Parliament in 2023.
You can find out how you can help donkeys in Zimbabwe on our appeal page.
