Campaigning collaboratively in a coalition comprised of World Horse Welfare, the Countryside Alliance, the NFU, the CLA, RSPCA, Redwings, The British Horse Society, Blue Cross and HorseWorld, we successfully influenced the UK and Welsh Governments to introduce the Control of Horses Acts.
How does this tackle fly-grazing?
The Control of Horses Act allows local authorities (and in England, private landowners) to remove fly-grazed equines from their property. The lack of care these horses receive, and the actions of their owners, threatened the livelihoods of farmers and landowners, created significant horse welfare problems, deprived the public use of public spaces and risked the lives of motorists.
