Our research and investigations
We believe the best way to influence change is to have a strong and credible evidence base.
We believe the best way to influence change is to have a strong and credible evidence base.
One way we achieve a strong and credible evidence base is by undertaking our own field research and investigations to enable us to increase our understanding of and assess the impact that certain situations or changes in situations have on the welfare of horses. For example, we regularly undertake field investigations to monitor the changes and trends in the welfare of horses transported long distances across Europe to slaughter.
We also compile data and information on the welfare of horses in the UK, across Europe and our international projects meaning we remain current on the welfare situations and trends affecting horses – allowing us to prioritise and focus on the key opportunities that will improve welfare for equines.
We aim to present our evidence to law makers, scientists and enforcement bodies to promote changes in law as well as guide education initiatives. See Our Campaigns pages for more examples on how this information is used to make real changes that improve the lives of horses.
