How to assess your horse’s welfare
with Dr Jill Fernandes
For the final webinar in this series, we will be exploring how to assess your horse’s welfare with Dr Jill Fernandes, an animal welfare scientist and consultant and founder of Animal Centric. Jill has worked with a range of organisations in the animal sector from zoos and aquariums, and now yards, creating a welfare assurance programme centred around the Five Domains Model for animal welfare assessment. Jill will guide us through the process and how it’s been used to assess horse welfare at yard level across our four rescue and rehoming centres, as well as how to assess the welfare of individual horses.
Jill will be joined by World Horse Welfare’s education officer, Rebecca Boulert to discuss World Horse Welfare’s new, free to access horse welfare assessment tool that asks horse owners and yard teams to reflect on the experiences of the horses on their yards, and consider what this means for their welfare. Jill will then be on hand to answer any questions you have about assessing your horse’s welfare in a live Q&A.
